FAQ

Everything you need to know before you dive

  • Why is Bonaire considered one of the world's best diving destinations?

Bonaire is famous for its crystal-clear waters, healthy coral reefs, abundant marine life and more than 85 shore-accessible dive sites. The island offers easy, independent diving with excellent visibility year-round.

  • Can I dive year-round?

Absolutely! Water temperatures stay between 26°C and 29°C (79°F to 84°F) throughout the year, with visibility often reaching 20 to 30 meters (65 to 100 feet).

  • Do I need a wetsuit?

Most divers are comfortable wearing a 3 mm shorty or full wetsuit. Some prefer diving in a rash guard or swimsuit during warmer months, while others enjoy the added warmth and protection of a wetsuit.

  • What is the Bonaire Nature Fee?

All divers are required to purchase the annual STINAPA Nature Fee, which supports the protection and conservation of the Bonaire National Marine Park. This can be paid upfront: stinapa.bonairenaturefee.org

  • Is boat diving available?

Yes, definitely. Daily boat trips visit sites around Bonaire and Klein Bonaire, including locations that are inaccessible from shore. Boats leave from Port Bonaire.

  • Are there rinse tanks available on site?

Yes. We provide different rinse tanks for equipment.

  • Can I store my equipment overnight?

Yes. Secure storage is available at the Dive shop of Delfins Diving on site, exclusively available for guests during their stay.

  • Do you have INT (Yoke) tanks or DIN tanks?

Both INT (Yoke) and DIN tanks are available at most dive centers.

  • Is Nitrox available?

Yes. Bonaire is one of the best destinations for Nitrox diving. In all Delfins Diving packages free air or nitrox is available without an extra charge. If you're not yet certified, you can complete your Nitrox course during your stay.

  • Is night diving available?

Yes. Night diving is one of Bonaire's highlights, offering the chance to see octopus, tarpon, hunting moray eels, and many fascinating nocturnal creatures.

  • Can children learn to dive?

Yes. Children aged 10 and older can usually participate in junior certification programs, depending on the course.

  • Is an orientation dive required?

Yes. Before diving independently, all divers must complete a mandatory orientation dive with a local dive operator. This helps familiarize you with Bonaire's shore diving procedures. The orientation dive is defined by the local authority STINAPA and will not be different from diving operator.

  • Can I dive from the shore?

Yes! Bonaire is known as the Shore Diving Capital of the World. Most dive sites are easily accessible from shore, allowing you to dive at your own pace after completing your orientation dive.

  • How do I know where to enter the water?

Most dive sites are marked with the island's iconic yellow stones. Our colleagues from Delfins Diving can also provide maps and recommendations.

  • Do I need a rental truck?

Many divers choose to rent a pickup truck, making it easy to transport tanks and equipment to Bonaire's shore dive sites. All Delfins Diving packages include a fully insured pick-up truck during your stay, offering you the opportunity to discover Bonaire above and below surface at your own pace.

  • Do I need to bring my own equipment?

No. Delfins Diving offers high-quality rental equipment, including BCDs, regulators, wetsuits, masks, fins, and dive computers.

  • What makes Bonaire unique in diving experiences?

During certain nights around the new moon, tiny crustaceans called ostracods perform a magical bioluminescent mating display, creating glowing spirals and shimmering trails of blue-green light in the water. This rare natural phenomenon can only be witnessed in a handful of places worldwide, making Bonaire one of the best destinations to experience it. An unforgettable bucket-list dive for underwater enthusiasts.

  • Can beginners dive on Bonaire?

Definitely. Bonaire's calm conditions, easy shore entries, and gentle reef slopes make it an excellent destination for first-time divers and those completing their Open Water certification which takes 3 days to complete.

Looking for a short diving experience without doing the full course, we offer DSD’s as well, which take half a day and let’s you get introduced to the concept of diving and the instructor that comes along will be able to show you the amazing underwater world already.

For sure, next time you will sign up for the Open Water course

  • Is Bonaire suitable for experienced divers?

Yes. While many sites are beginner-friendly, experienced divers can enjoy deeper reefs, drift dives, boat dives to Klein Bonaire, and advanced sites with stronger currents and unique underwater topography.

  • Should I book my diving package before arrival?
